Born and raised in Latin America, Shirley spent her teenage years playing video games, writing fiction and day dreaming about far away lands and possible futures. As an adult she believes in collaboration, free access to knowledge and decentralization. Thus, it’s no surprise that since being properly introduced to crypto-assets last year, she has been studying the space very closely focusing on “crypto gaming” (GameFi), the concept of the “Metaverse” and the philosophical implications of NFTs, digital ownership and a decentralized Internet. Moreover, her background in humanistic disciplines and research, fused with a fascination for digital technologies, human-centric design and computer interaction give Shirley a unique perspective into these topics, all driven by a desire to help others succeed, empathy, technical knowledge and a strong sense of social responsibility. This is why for the past year Shirley has created and distributed information about the crypto-asset ecosystem, with the hopes of encouraging more people (especially Latin American women) to learn how to navigate this emerging space. She has also organized and participated in a diversity of forums related to NFTs and “crypto gaming”. Shirley is an active member of the LatAm video game industry and community and she’s a co-founder of the Puerto Rico Game Developers' Association (PRGDA). Shirley currently works at the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust as part of the Cultural Heritage Innovation Program, where she focuses on the ideation of programs, events and projects that integrate digital interactive technologies into the conservation and preservation of Puerto Rican Cultural Heritage.
